Ampang Line of RapidKL’s Light Rail Transit LRT

The Ampang Line of RapidKl Light Rail Transit is a driver-operated light rail transit system in the Klang Valley. It was formerly known as STAR LRT and was re-named Ampang Line after it was taken over by RapidKL, a subsidiary of Prasarana.

The Ampang Line is one of the two lines in the Kuala Lumpur Light Rail Transit System network operated by RapidKL Light Rail Transit. The other Light Rail Transit line is the Kelana Jaya Line.

Kuala Lumpur Rail Transit

The Kuala Lumpur Rail Transit consists of 4 principal rail networks:
1. RapidKl Light Rail Transit LRT
2. RapidKL KL Monorail
3. KTM Komuter
4. KLIA Express Rail Link

The Ampang Line of RapidKL Light Rail Transit

The Ampang line consists of 1 major shared line and two sub-lines:

  • Sentul Timur to Chan Sow Lin (shared stations between the two sub-lines)
  • Chan Sow Lin to Ampang
  • Chan Sow Lin to Sri Petaling

The Ampang Line of RapidKl Light Rail Transit consists of two routes with a total length of 27 kilometres that begin at two different stations to the south of the city, one from Sri Petaling while the other is from Ampang, meeting at an interchange station at Chan Sow Lin, continuing through the city centre and ending at the same station at the north at Sentul Timur.

The Ampang-Sentul Timur line begins at Ampang, while the Sri Petaling-Sentul Timur line begins at Sri Petaling. Both lines converge at Chan Sow Lin and the merged line leads to the north, terminating at Sentul Timur.

The Ampang Line of RapidKl Light Rail Transit includes 25 stations: eleven along the Chan Sow Lin-Sentul Timur line, and seven each along the Ampang-Chan Sow Lin line and the Sri Petaling-Chan Sow Lin line. The service depot and primary train depot is at Ampang. There is a secondary train depot at Sri Petaling.

Common Stations on the Ampang Line

These stations are the common stations that the yellow and green routes share.

Yellow Route Stations

Chan Sow Lin is the interchange station between the two routes. The route that runs to Ampang station consists of 7 stations running into east of the Klang Valley.

Green Route Stations

Chan Sow Lin is the interchange station between the two sub-routes. The line that runs to Sri Petaling station consists of 7 stations running into the south of the Klang Valley.
