KL Monorail: RapidKL Light Rail Transit’s Kuala Lumpur Monorail System
KL Monorail, the commonly used name for the RapidKL Kuala Lumpur Monorail, is an urban monorail system serving primarily the city core of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
This urban transit system was opened on 31 August 2003 and it forms one of the 3 RapidkL Light Rail Transit systems.
3 RapidKL Light Rail Transit Systems
- RapidKL Kelana Jaya Line: Connecting Gombak, Wangsa Maju, KLCC, Masjid Jamek, KL Sentral, Bangsar and Kelana Jaya.
- RapidKL Ampang Line: Connecting Sentul, Golden Triangle, Masjid Jamek, Chinatown, Pudu, Ampang, Bandar Tasik Selatan and Sri Petaling.
- RapidKl Kuala Lumpur Monorail: Connecting Titiwangsa, Chow Kit, Medan Tuanku, Bukit Nanas, Golden Triangle, Bukit Bintang, Brickfields and KL Sentral.
RapidKL KL Monorail
The KL Monorail, completed at a cost of RM 1.2 billion, is owned by Syarikat Prasarana Negara, Prasarana and is operated by RapidKL, a major public transport company in Malaysia. It forms part of the 3 light rail transit systems operated by RapidKL, the other two are the RapidKL Light Rail System’s Kelana Jaya Line and Ampang Line.
There are 11 monorail stations in the 8.6 km Kuala Lumpur Monorail route with two parallel elevated tracks. The monorail route connects the Kuala Lumpur Sentral transportation hub with the Golden Triangle, Kuala Lumpur’s modern business and shopping precinct, and the inner city of Kuala Lumpur.

KL Monorail Route and Stations
The Kuala Lumpur Monorail Line system consists of a single dual-way line that linked the inner areas of Kuala Lumpur which were not previously served by any rail transit network. The Kuala Lumpur Monorail now connects the popular inner areas of Brickfields, Bukit Bintang and Chow Kit with KL Sentral, Hang Tuah, Bukit Nanas and Titiwangsa.

KL Monorail Stations with interchanges with other transport systems
Titiwangsa Monorail Station
The Titiwangsa monorail station is the first Kl Monorail station that starts at the north around the Damai Complex area. The connecting roads are Jalan Ipoh and Jalan Tun Razak. It is not near Lake Titiwangsa even though the station is called Titiwangsa.
The Titiwangsa monorail station of the KL LRT Ampang Line is within walking distance for you to change to that station.
The Pekeliling Bus Station, which serves multiple local bus services, is within walking distance from the Titiwangsa station.
Bukit Nanas Monorail Station
The Bukit Nanas monorail station is located at the intersection of Jalan Ampang and Jalan Sultan Ismail, just situated at the start of the Golden Triangle. The Concorde Hotel, the Renaissance Hotel and the Malaysian National Tourist Centre are situated near this station.
The Dang Wangi station of the KL LRT Kelana Jaya Line is within walking distance.
Hang Tuah Monorail Station
The Hang Tuah monorail station is in the Pudu area of Kuala Lumpur. The National Stadium is located close by. The Hang Tuah station of the KL LRT Ampang Line is within walking distance.
The Hang Tuah monorail station is one of 5 Kuala Lumpur Monorail stations that serves the Kuala Lumpur Golden Triangle locality, the other three being the Bukit Nanas station, the Raja Chulan station, the Bukit Bintang station and the Imbi station.
KL Sentral Monorail Station
The KL Sentral Monorail station is not located inside the Kl Sentral Station. It is located across the road at Jalan Tun Sambanthan, at a distance of 416 m. You can walk under the covered walkway to the KL Sentral Station.

Train Frequency
The Kuala Lumpur Monorail train frequency is ranged from every 5 minutes for peak hours to 12 minutes for low peak hours.
KL Monorail Tickets
Single Journey Ticket
Single Journey tickets are used for one way journey and they are not returned to passengers at the end of their journey.
Stored Value Ticket
Stored Value tickets are priced at RM20 and RM50 each in the form of reusable cards. You cannot used the cards once you have finished using all the stored value. The Stored Value Ticket allow a last bonus ride with whatever remaining balance in ticket value.
Touch ‘n’ Go Card
You can use the popular Touch‘n’ Go card for traveling on the KL Monorail. This card can be used at all highways in Malaysia, major public transport systems in Klang Valley and some parking areas and theme parks.
Rapidpass Integrasi (RM 150)
The Rapidpass Integrasi (RM 150) monthly pass offers unlimited rides for RapidKL buses, LRTs and the KL Monorail service. Rapidpass Integrasi card can be purchased at all LRT and KL Monorail stations, as well as selected bus hubs.
KL Monorail Fare
Typically the price of the KL Monorail fare to reach 1 station is RM1.20. The fare to reach up to 4, 7 and 10 stations are Rm1.60, RM2.10 and RM2.50 respectively.
